Well done to the players and Management for another great season.
Oldbury Park Tigers Football Club have been awarded the Regional Charter Standard Development Club of the Year Award for the West Midlands.
Having scooped the County award for the same category, the club were nominated for the Regional award and were selected as deserved winners from the panel at The FA to recognise & reward the club’s efforts throughout the past twelve months.
The hard work has not just taken place over the past season though as this year’s awards are added to a host of other awards that the club has received over the past few years, including; County FA Charter Standard Football Club in 2005, County FA Charter Standard Development Club in 2008 and the prestigious FA National Innovation Award in 2008 which was awarded for a school-club link project with Dines Green Primary School - And the recognition does not stop there as this year also saw an individual Workforce Award be awarded to club coach Jon Wilson for his tireless work with the Under 12’s.
David Millbery, Chairman of Oldbury Park Tigers Football Club commented “This is a great accolade as we have now won this award for two years running. It is recognition of all the hard work put in by all of our volunteers and our sponsors who help fund the teams and the other activities we provide. We thank the Worcestershire FA for recognising our efforts again and look forward to an equally successful new season in 2009/2010.”
The Worcestershire FA would like to congratulate the Club and all its members on achieving the award, and thank them for contributing so positively to the development of grassroots football within Worcestershire!
Jon Wilson, Football Development officer, Worcester City council, was recently rewarded for his work with
The award was presented to Jon by Matt Jones at the recent Charter Standard Football Festival held at KGV,
Jon commented, “ It was quite a shock to receive this award and to be nominated for something you enjoy doing feels very strange. It is I who should be thanking the team and club as without their support I would not have made the move into football development as a career in the last year.
AROUND 240 children from 25 charter standard teams participated in the annual Worcestershire FA Football Festival.
All teams played at least one game on the new 3G all-weather surface and several matches on the new grass pitches at the King George V Playing Fields.
The festival, held each year in a partnership between Worcestershire FA and Worcester City Council, saw a change to the format and girls’ teams introduced.
It was broken down into under 8s, 10s, 12s and under 10s girls sections.
Oldbury Park Tigers Under 12s received the fair play award from Matt Jones, WFA development officer.
Many teams also took up the challenge of participating in various skills activities led by the WFA’s Ted Grizzell.

Worcester City Supporters' Trust has arranged a commemorative match to mark the 50th anniversary of Worcester City's most memorable victory. On 15th January 1959 City faced Liverpool in a 3rd round F.A. Cup tie at Saint George's Lane and recorded one the greatest ever giant-killing feats by winning 2-1. AFC Liverpool have agreed to send their team to Saint George's Lane to play a match against Worcester City to mark the occasion. AFC Liverpool was formed in 2008 as an alternative for those Liverpool fans who found themselves priced out of watching football in the Premier League. They are already enjoying a successful first season in the North West Counties League having just won the Division One Trophy and they currently occupy second place in the league table. One name in their club who City fans will recognise is Paul Moore who made 315 appearances in goal for City in three separate spells with the club. He is now the goalkeeping coach at AFC Liverpool and has also played a key role in helping to arrange the match. City legend Harry Knowles, who played in the 1959 match, will be present as guest of honour. Other guests attending include Liverpool legend Ronnie Moran. City manager Richard Dryden has said that he will be putting out his best available side for the game which will take place at Saint George's Lane on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May, kick-off 3pm. Admission is available on the day at £5 for adults and £3 for children. There is also a limited number of commemorative tickets available. They can be obtained from the club office at Saint George's Lane, from Newtown Post Office, 25 Lichfield Avenue, Worcester, WR5 1NW . | ||||||
