The University of Worcester has joined forces with Oldbury Park Tigers Football Club to develop one of the most innovative junior clubs in the region.

The University will support the club by offering support through staff expertise, facilities, resources and undergraduate students who will be able to deliver coaching and sports science sessions to the youngsters.
Oldbury Park Tigers is an FA Chartered Standard Development Club and is known for its innovative work and school club links. In 2007, the FA recognised its work with the local community, and in particular Dines Green Primary School, by awarding it an FA School/Club link National Innovation Award.
The football club represents St John’s and the west side of the City of Worcester and currently has more than 300 people directly involved with it. This consists of 11 current junior teams (soon to be 14), 30 qualified coaches, over 30 volunteers and a development centre which regularly attracts between 50 and 70 young people on a weekly basis.
With the support of the University the club will now be able to increase participation further within the County. David Millbery, Chairman of Oldbury Park Tigers Football Club, said: “The club has achieved a great deal but we are rapidly reaching capacity. The support of the University will enable us to grow and increase participation as well as developing new and exciting opportunities for the club, our players and our volunteers.”
Andy Norman, Worcestershire Football Association Development Manager, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the development of the club and junior football within the City of Worcester.”
Mick Donovan, Head of the Institute of Sport & Exercise Science at the University of Worcester, added: “We have a strong reputation for supporting sport and in particular, youngsters in the local community. We are delighted to be giving our support to Oldbury Park Tigers and look forward to helping them to move to the next stage within their development.”
